I'm addicted to Barn Buddy. There, I said it. I can't stop, it's become my second life! The fresh (albeit imaginary) smell of ripened tomatoes on the vine. The feel of the earth (also imaginary) in my very hands. It's exhilarating!
Ok, maybe its not that exhilarating, but if you've played it you know it's pretty darn entertaining. If you haven't, well maybe it's time to crawl out of that rock you have been hiding under. Barn Buddy is a game developed for the social networking platform Facebook. It allows you to maintain a virtual farm, that you can do a wide variety of activities in including planting/harvesting crops, decorating, and visiting your friends farms.
Sure, there are a few 'farm simulators' out there, but what makes this one stand apart from all the others, is the focus isn't directed solely on collecting items to display in your farm. While this feature is present, the game goes into a little more depth with the act of farming. With this game, you must take care of your crops while they grow. Each plant has it's on health indicator, which is affected by a variety of factors such as weeds, insects, and lack of water. From time to time you'll come back to your farm to find it covered in insects, or weeds, sometimes the earth is dry and you'll have to water them. Each of these issues are solved with their respective tools such as insecticide, weed killer, and a watering can.
You can unlock more of the game through various means. One of which, is to gain experience points by completing tasks, and growing your plants. As you go up in level by gaining these experience points, more of the games features become available to you. You can also unlock the game by adding more and more neighbors. To add a neighbor, you must either invite a friend, or find a friend who is already playing Barn Buddy, and request to be their neighbor. This allows you to visit there farm and either help them, or hurt them (such as stealing crops, leaving bugs, planting weeds etc). The more neighbors you acquire, the more the game opens and becomes available to you.
You can also advance your self by spending real money in their online store. Not for everyone, but a nice option to have in case you want to use it.
